WHO IS A INDEPENDENT WINEGROWER?

The Independent Winegrower cultivates his own vines, vinifies his own grapes, bottles his own wine and personally sells it under his own responsibility, under his own name and label.

He carries out his activity in the form of a single or associated farm and in the exercise of his work he operates in accordance with the Italian laws of the sector. An Independent Winegrower does not buy grapes and/or wine for commercial purposes.

The names of our bottles: family, territory, dialect

NonoNèno

[ˈnɔnoˈnɛ·no] Nèno is the dialect diminutive of Nazzareno, our maternal grandfather (nonno in Italian) with whom we spent most of the summer holidays. All-round farmer, first as a sharecropper then as a small owner, with grandmother he also managed a small family stable with half dozen of dairy cows.
In his fields, he has always cultivated under the vines the grassy meadow for the cows feeding. The coexistence of the vineyard and the forage got easier with Belussera or “ray” vine training system, because the much wider rows made possible to work hay easily.

The harvest in our winery, both manual and mechanical, always takes place in the morning so the afternoon can be occupied for must and wine processing in the cellar.
Whatever the harvesting method, it is essential to get the freshest grapes possible to the cellar to face the subsequent processing, enhancing the quality of the raw material.

Mowing on alternate rows

With the mowing on alternate rows, the cutting of grass of the entire surface will therefore be carried out at two different times, 20 days or more from each other.
The mowed and shredded grass remains in the vineyard, increasing the Organic substance present and improving the fertility of the soil.

A cultivation practice as simple as effective: defoliation

Defoliation is a leaves management practice carried out on the foliage during the vegetative phase.

The management of the green parts also includes other processes, such as spollonatura (or sucking off: to eliminate non fruit-bearing buds), green pruning, topping (trimming the tops of shoots), scacchiatura (or disbudding: the removal of the axillar gems to reduce the vegetative development) and so on.

Sparkling and semi-sparkling wines closure

What makes the difference among still, semi-sparkling (Frizzante) or sparkling (Spumante) wine is substantially the different quantity of carbon dioxide (CO2) dissolved in the wine: the bubbles.
According to Italian legislation, a wine is defined still if the overpressure is less than 1 atmosphere (bar), semi-sparkling if it is included in a range from 1 to 2.5 bar and sparkling wine if it exceeds 3.5 bar.
